So, I finished writing my current work-in-progress the other day, delighted to type those wonderful words, The End.
And was at loose ends. Couldn't settle down to do anything, even though there was plenty I could do--inside the house, outside in the yard. Didn't even check out the books in my TBR pile. Instead, I wandered around my house thinking, hmmm, I should do this or that. And didn't.
Fortunately, I had to meet with some of my critique partners that night and now I'm refocused. I have another story that only has one scene left to write--interrupted that story to write Two Moons Rising that I just sold to Crescent Moon Press.
So, yesterday, to reward myself, I bought a new fancy trellis to hang my hummingbird feeder on, and next year I can plant some flowers to climb it. Check out the pic.
What do you do to celebrate finishing a manuscript?

It's so hard for me to refocus after I finish a book. I know I should move on to the next one, but it usually takes me a day or two to get my feet back on the ground. You did better than me with your turn around time.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad we were able to help you refocus. When I finish a book I take a break. I'm not sure if I do anything special, but I love your trellis.
ReplyDeleteCritique groups are great for helping one another focus.

Thanks Nina. My turn-around usually isn't that quick. But the almost-done ms. is another Love Genie story, so it wasn't as hard to refocus as usual.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks, Jillian. You guys are the best.
I always have to take a break after writing "the end". It may be just a few days, but my brain needs a breather. So...you're allowed your breather, but not too long, missy!
ReplyDeleteYour trellis is cute! I wonder if our local place has something like that.
Ha, Lu/Grace! Another critter cracking the wip (pun spelling intended). The trellis was definitely not one of a kind. You can probably find one.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on finishing the WIP, Judi!!! That's so cool that you celebrated with something that will remind you every time you look at it of what you accomplished.
ReplyDeleteWhen I finish a book, I have to buy myself a present, usually some kind of gadget. The last book, which was the third in a trilogy, earned an iPad -- cuz, you know, it was three times the accomplishment. Right? Right? :)
Congrats on finishing the book..When I finish a book my way to celebrate is resting my mind..LOL...
